BNP leaders and activists are angry over Shravan being nominated instead of Azad in Keshabpur

There has been a huge stir after the release of the BNP's primary nomination list for Jessore-6 (Keshabpur) constituency. In a party decision, Kazi Rawonkul Islam Shravan, a member of the central BNP national executive committee and former president of the central Chhatra Dal, has been declared the candidate for the paddy sheaf. And a large section of the veteran and experienced leaders and activists of Keshabpur are angry with this.

The party's grassroots leaders complain—
"The person who has been holding the BNP in Keshabpur for 25 years in the party's crisis has been left out, and a person who has no visible work for the people of Keshabpur has been nominated."

Azad's long sacrifice, but the nomination belongs to someone else

In 1997, Alhajj Abul Hossain Azad held the organization in Keshabpur during the most difficult time for BNP. Later, the party high command gave him the responsibility of the president of the Thana BNP.

Leaders and activists say—

Azad has never taken money from leaders and activists for any program.

Rather, he has spent thousands of taka from his own pocket to implement the party program.

In the party's long history, he has won elections three times with a grain of rice.

He was defeated in the by-elections of 2008, 2018 and 2020 in the face of obstacles from the government-backed administration.

His wife Rehena Azad—the senior vice-president of Keshabpur Upazila BNP—has also succeeded in increasing women's leadership in the organization from the field.

Grassroots anger over nomination

Many within the party are saying—

"The leader whose sacrifice keeps BNP alive in Keshabpur is the one who is forgotten when the election comes."

They are claiming that a sinister group has misled acting chairman Tarique Rahman and deprived Azad of nomination. There have even been allegations,

"They don't want BNP to win the Jessore-6 seat."

Questions are being raised over making Shravan a candidate

The statement of the Trinamool leaders of Keshabpur—
“Shravan is a child of the Awami family. He has no contribution to BNP, Jubo Dal or Chhatra Dal in Keshabpur. He is not acceptable in the area. If we use him to run elections, the morale of the resigned leaders will be broken.”

It is even learned that after Shravan was declared a candidate, several prominent Awami League accused in the area and people involved in cases against BNP-Jamaat in the past have now become active.

Azad’s success by foiling the conspiracy

In the meantime, a group had conspired to form a human chain and a memorandum for the Jessore-6 seat and went to the High Court. But Abul Hossain Azad foiled that conspiracy in the legal battle.

“The leader who saved the existence of the party was deprived.”

According to the BNP's veteran leaders and activists in Jessore-6 (Keshabpur), if Azad is not nominated, disappointment will increase in the party, weakness will arise in the field-level organization, and the chances of BNP winning in Keshabpur will decrease.
