Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia expressed relief over the news of her eldest son Tarique Rahman's return to the country after 17 years. She received the good news while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
Family sources said that a few days ago, Khaleda Zia's daughter-in-law Dr. Zobaida Rahman and personal physician Professor AZM Zahid Hossain informed her about Tarique Rahman's return to the country. She felt mentally relieved at this news.
On Tuesday evening, Khaleda Zia's private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar said that the news of her son's return to the country has brought her mental peace and she is feeling better than before.
Doctors said that the physical condition of the 80-year-old former prime minister is currently stable. She has been suffering from various complications related to old age, including liver, kidney, and diabetes, for the past month. He is being given advanced antibiotic and antifungal treatment due to a serious infection in his body.
Medical Board member Dr. Ziaul Haque said that if his physical condition improves further, there is a plan to transfer him from the Critical Care Unit (CCU) to the cabin.
It is worth noting that Khaleda Zia was transferred to the CCU on November 27 when her physical condition deteriorated. The Medical Board, consisting of about 30 local and foreign specialist doctors, is monitoring his treatment and health situation around the clock.
After a long exile, Tarique Rahman will participate in a public reception directly from the airport upon his return to the country. Later, he is scheduled to visit his mother who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, according to relevant sources.
