BNP leader Ishraq Hossain has reacted sharply to a statement made by Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and Chief Whip of the Opposition. Expressing his indignation over accusations of criminal conduct leveled against him, Ishraq remarked that the NCP has absolutely no future as a political party. He voiced this frustration in a post on his verified Facebook account on Monday night.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, while visiting a *puja mandap* (worship pavilion) in the capital’s Badda area, Nahid Islam alleged that Ishraq had committed a criminal offense and that law enforcement agencies should take action against him.

In response, Ishraq Hossain—who previously served as State Minister for Liberation War Affairs—argued that instead of addressing a grave societal crisis like the drug menace, the focus is being placed solely on finding fault with him. While he once viewed Nahid as a proponent of a new brand of politics, Ishraq expressed his disappointment with the younger generation, stating that there is no hope for any meaningful new approach from them.

Questioning the political future of the NCP, the BNP leader pointed out that when he attempted to take a legitimate initiative to eradicate drugs—in coordination with the police—the response was a threat of a legal case against him.

Directly challenging Nahid Islam, Ishraq stated that if they manage to find any loophole to file a case against him, he would surrender himself voluntarily. He further alleged that the country is witnessing a form of "meaningless politics" carried out in the name of the rule of law.

Towards the end of his Facebook post, Ishraq Hossain warned that he intends to move beyond conventional methods to combat the drug problem with a much stricter approach, and he issued a stern warning to major drug traffickers to be on their guard.
