Mbappé injured after scoring against Turkey; questions raised over new boots

Kylian Mbappé sustained a knee injury after scoring the winning goal for France against Turkey. Since he was wearing new boots during the match, speculation has arisen regarding a possible link between the footwear change and the injury; however, no evidence of such a connection has been found.

On Friday (September 25), France defeated Turkey 1–0 in a Nations League match thanks to a goal by Mbappé. He felt discomfort after scoring; although he continued playing for a while after receiving initial treatment, he eventually had to leave the pitch.
The French Football Federation has announced that Mbappé suffered a tendon injury. He will leave the national team camp and return to Madrid for treatment.

Mbappé recently ended his long-standing partnership with Nike and signed a deal with the Swiss sportswear manufacturer 'On'. Before the match, Spanish physiotherapist Angel Villanueva had noted that changes to a boot's sole, studs, cushioning, or weight could alter the pressure exerted on the foot and increase the risk of injury.

Villanueva's warning addressed the general risks associated with changing boots. The French Football Federation has not issued any medical conclusion stating that Mbappé's specific injury was caused by the new boots.
