Former BNP leader, 3 others sentenced to one year in prison for consuming Yaba

A mobile court in Panchagarh's Boda upazila has sentenced three people, including the former general secretary of the union BNP, to one year in prison for consuming Yaba. At the same time, each has been fined Tk 7,000.
On Monday (June 1) afternoon, the police conducted a drive in the Rahmatpur area of Maidandighi union of the upazila and arrested them. Later, the mobile court led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rabiul Islam handed down the sentence under the relevant section of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. After the sentence, the convicts have been sent to jail.
The convicts are Mamun Hasan (42), former general secretary of Maidandighi Union BNP and resident of Pradhanpara village, Rashidul Islam (38), son of the late Faridul Islam of Rahmatpur area, and Bishnu Chandra Roy (28), son of Rajkumar Roy of Tepukuria village of Benghari union.
According to the mobile court sources, based on a secret tip-off, a police team led by Boda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Tahidul Islam conducted a raid on Rashidul Islam's house in Rahmatpur area. At that time, three people were caught red-handed while consuming Yaba. Two pieces of Yaba and various drug-using equipment were seized from them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boda Police Station Soel Rana said that the raid was conducted as part of the ongoing campaign against drugs. After taking legal action against the detainees, they were sent to jail on the orders of the court.
Executive Magistrate Rabiul Islam said, "The administration's drive to create a drug-free society will continue. The administration is taking a strict stance against drug use and drug-related crimes."
