Bank official alleges losing flat worth Tk 3.5 million after marriage

A bank official in Savar has been accused of being a victim of marriage fraud. The victim, Ibrahim Sheikh, has claimed that a large amount of cash, gold ornaments and a flat were taken away from him by taking advantage of the marital relationship. His first wife has also made the same allegation. They have demanded a fair investigation and trial of the incident.

According to the allegation, Ibrahim Sheikh married Minara Akhter Soma in March 2023. At that time, he was working in Manikganj due to his job and would stay in Savar on certain days of the week. Ibrahim claims that after the marriage, his wife gradually took about Tk 3.5 million in cash, four and a half tons of gold ornaments and a flat bought on loan from him in her own name. He alleges that he is currently facing major financial losses due to these reasons.

Ibrahim Sheikh's first wife has also made similar allegations in the incident. She claims that their family has been financially damaged through planned fraud. He further alleged that some members of Minara Akhter Soma's ex-husband's family were also indirectly involved in the incident. However, no court verdict or government investigation report has been published in support of these allegations yet.

Minara Akhter Soma's statement on this matter was not available. On the other hand, her ex-husband Azim Dewan claimed that Soma had married elsewhere before she was officially divorced. He later divorced her and said that he has no contact with her at present. The matter has been discussed locally between the allegations and counter-allegations. However, it has not been possible to independently verify the truth of the allegations without the statements of the parties concerned and the results of the investigation.
