Former teacher dies of snake bite in Panchagarh, Kumartole village in mourning

A former teacher named Jannatul Ferdousi (40) died of a poisonous snake bite in Tetulia, Panchagarh. She is the wife of Dewanul Hossain, a resident of Kumartole village in Shalbahan union of the upazila, and the daughter of Ibrahim Ali of Goabari village. In her professional life, she worked as a teacher at Ranchandi Kindergarten.

The incident took place in Kumartole village early on Thursday (June 18).

According to family and local sources, a poisonous snake bit her toe while she was opening the door of her house in the morning and going out. Later, her relatives quickly took her to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital. When her condition deteriorated there, the doctors sent her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Civil Surgeon of Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital Dr. Mizanur Rahman said that the patient's condition had become critical before she was brought to the hospital. She was given antivenom at the hospital. However, she required ICU support. She later died on the way to Rangpur.

Kumartol village resident and village doctor Rezaul Karim Sarkar said, “It is very sad that people die from snake bites like this. It is important to ensure quick and effective treatment.”

Shalbahan Union Parishad Chairman Ashraful Islam said that the woman died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment after being bitten by a snake in the morning.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the area.
