Aman paddy planting in full swing in Tentulia, farmers hoping for bumper yield

Aman paddy planting has begun in full swing in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh. Due to favorable weather and sufficient rainfall during the monsoon season, farmers are now busy cultivating Aman across the fields. They are working in the fields with their families and agricultural workers from dawn to dusk.

On Wednesday morning, visiting various areas including Demgach village of Tirnoihat union of the upazila, it was seen that farmers were lifting the seedlings from the seedbed and planting them in rows in the field. In many places, women workers were also seen participating in the paddy planting work.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, a target of 11,590 hectares of land has been set for Aman paddy cultivation in Tentulia Upazila during the current Aman season. As the weather is favorable, planting work is already underway in most areas.

Local farmer Hafizur Rahman said that if seedlings are planted on time, there is a possibility of good yield. Therefore, they are trying to complete the work on time despite the rain. If the favorable weather continues, he is hoping for a good yield this time.

Farmers Anarul Islam and Mujibur Rahman of Thunthonia village in Tirnoihat Union said that like other years, they are cultivating Aman paddy on their respective lands this time too. On the other hand, farmers Yusuf Ali and Hafizur Rahman of Demgach village said that they have cultivated various varieties of Aman paddy, including early varieties, on about 3.5 acres of land.

Tentulia Upazila Agriculture Officer Shabrina Afrin said that officials of the Agriculture Department are regularly working in the field to provide necessary advice and technical assistance to the farmers. Farmers are being encouraged to cultivate improved varieties of rice and use modern agricultural technology.

He also said that if the weather is favorable and if diseases and pests can be controlled, a good yield of Aman will be obtained this season. This will further strengthen the country's food production and food security.

Currently, a procession of green Aman seedlings is being seen across the vast fields of Tentulia. Local agricultural stakeholders are hoping for a bumper harvest this time too with the relentless hard work of the farmers and the cooperation of the Agriculture Department.
