Amidst tight security, a shipment of uranium nuclear fuel has departed from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, heading towards the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi, Pabna. The fuel, intended for the first unit, is being transported to the project site in three special lorries.

The lorries carrying the uranium set out from the airport at approximately 7:15 AM on Saturday (October 3). Personnel from the Bangladesh Army—leading the operation—alongside the Special Response Battalion (SRB), police, and various intelligence agencies, are ensuring the shipment's security throughout the journey.

Special precautionary measures have been implemented along the route to mitigate any potential risks associated with transporting nuclear fuel. The uranium shipment is scheduled to reach the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant under a secure escort.

Earlier, at around 11:30 PM on Friday (October 2), the special aircraft carrying the uranium landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Following the completion of necessary formalities, officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority received the fuel shipment.

According to the project plan, additional nuclear fuel for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh via nine separate flights between November and December.

The plan includes bringing 48 more uranium assemblies for the first unit and 163 for the second unit. These shipments are set to arrive in Dhaka from Russia, traversing the airspace of various countries.
