Ahead of the new IPL season, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have implemented a major overhaul of their coaching staff. Following the appointment of Kieron Pollard as the new head coach, three individuals—including legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga—have been removed from the coaching panel.

In a statement released on Thursday (October 29), the franchise announced the end of its professional association with Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey, and Carl Hopkinson. The Mumbai management expressed their gratitude for the contributions, dedication, and long-standing support provided by these individuals to the team.

Malinga had joined the Mumbai Indians' coaching panel ahead of the 2024 IPL season, while Paras Mhambrey and Carl Hopkinson took on their roles prior to the 2025 season. Notably, Mhambrey had previously served on the Mumbai coaching staff between 2010 and 2017.

Mumbai Indians hold the distinction of being the first team in IPL history to win the title five times. However, the team has struggled to meet expectations in recent times, failing to reach the final in any of the last six seasons. In the 2026 edition, Mumbai finished ninth out of ten teams. With this new coaching structure, the team now aims to make a strong comeback.
