‘Age is just a number’ – Ali Akbar of Bagatipara, Natore, has proven that no obstacle in life can be a final obstacle in fulfilling his dreams if he has the will. After spending a long time of his life struggling with the hardships of his family and the struggle to build a future for his children, he took the SSC examination at the age of 54 and passed with distinction with a GPA of 4.35.
Ali Akbar is a resident of Perabaria Mohalla of Bagatipara Municipality. He is also known locally as Ali Azam. Due to poverty in his childhood, he had to leave his studies and take responsibility for his family. However, after many years, the desire to fulfill his unfulfilled dream reawakened. Finally, he succeeded in the SSC examination of 2026 for the first time.
Education interrupted at a young age
Ali Akbar said that he was born into a very poor family. He is the second of several siblings. Due to the family's financial crisis, he had to leave his studies at a young age and take care of the family with his father.
Later, he got married. A daughter and a son were born into the family. In order to meet the expenses of his children's education and ensure their future, he completely put aside his dream of education.
His life was spent in establishing his children
Ali Akbar worked hard to continue his children's education along with fulfilling his family responsibilities. At one stage, he started working as an employee at the Islami Bank Hospital in Rajshahi with his wife. He used the money earned by the couple to support his children's education.
His eldest daughter is currently engaged in the nursing profession. And his younger son Ismail Hossain completed his MBBS and is currently working as a government doctor.
After being able to establish his children, Ali Akbar remembered his long-standing dream.
He enrolled in school again at the age of 54
Ali Akbar said that he sacrificed his desire to study to establish his children. After making his daughter a nurse and his son a doctor, they established themselves in their respective places. Then he decided that he would not sit still for the rest of his life and fulfill his unfulfilled dream.
While in Rajshahi due to his job, he got admitted to the technical branch of Nowhatta Science and Technology High School. After that, he studied regularly and participated in the 2026 SSC examination.
After passing with a GPA of 4.35 for the first time, Ali Akbar expressed his joy and said that his joy at succeeding for the first time is indescribable.
Ali Akbar's message for students
He said to the current students that there is no specific age for studying. To do well in the exam, one needs morale, focus and hard work.
He urged the students to focus on their studies instead of wasting time on mobile games and chatting with friends. Citing his own life as an example, he said that success is possible with desire and hard work.
Children were by his side in fulfilling his father's dream
Ali Akbar's son, Dr. Ismail Hossain, said that his father often said that he was interested in studying since childhood. But due to family hardships and the responsibility of raising his children, he could not fulfill his dream.
His children knew about his father's unfulfilled dream. That is why they encouraged him to enroll in school again.
Ismail Hossain said that he himself is a doctor and his wife is also a doctor. His elder sister is engaged in the nursing profession and his sister-in-law is a teacher. After raising his children, they wanted their father to follow the path of fulfilling his dream.
This time, his son also expressed his desire to get Ali Akbar admitted to higher secondary school after passing SSC. At the same time, he sought prayers from the countrymen for his father.
Inspiration has been created in the area
The incident of passing SSC at the age of 54 has received a huge response in the area. Local residents also see his success as a matter of pride.
Former Commissioner of Perabaria Mohalla Abu Hena Md. Kamruzzaman said that starting studies at this age, participating in the examination and passing it with distinction is proof of Ali Akbar's indomitable willpower, morale and perseverance.
According to him, Ali Akbar's success is an inspiration not only for his family but also for the younger generation of the area. The people of Perabaria Mahalla have congratulated him and wished him well.
Let Ali Akbar's story remind us once again that it is never too late to pursue a dream at any stage of life. Even if a dream is stopped due to responsibility and reality, it is possible to start it anew if given the opportunity. This indomitable man from Natore gave that message after passing SSC at the age of 54.
