The sudden sighting of two unidentified drones in the sky near Saint Martin's Island in Cox's Bazar has spread concern among locals. Such an unusual presence on this island near the border has raised new questions about security.
On Thursday (April 2), around 7 pm, two red and green drones were seen flying in the eastern sky near the island's jetty for about an hour. Eyewitnesses said that the two drones were stationary in the sky and were changing directions occasionally, indicating an unknown situation outside of normal surveillance.
Acting Chairman of Saint Martin Union Parishad, Faizul Islam, said that the matter was immediately reported to the local administration. Initially, it is believed that the drones may have come from across the border, but no confirmed information has been received yet.
Local resident Mohammad Azim said that many people gathered after seeing the two drones and later drew the attention of the administration. Since the incident, curiosity and a kind of unknown fear have been working across the island.
Concerned people say that such incidents need to be viewed with special importance in the context of the recent increase in tension in the border area. Locals demand that a quick investigation be conducted to identify the source of the drones and border surveillance be strengthened so that such situations can be avoided in the future.
