Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that one of the government's goals is to develop the talent, capabilities and innovative power of the country's young population as the main driving force of national progress. He assumed the charge of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in February 2026.
In a message on the occasion of World Population Day on Saturday (July 11), the Prime Minister said that the government is implementing various initiatives in a coordinated manner to ensure quality education, up-to-date skills, employment, healthcare and family planning opportunities for the youth.
The theme of this year's World Population Day has emphasized building a beautiful future by implementing the hopes and aspirations of the youth. The Prime Minister said that this concept is also in line with the government's national development plan. Ensuring a healthy, educated, skilled and dignified life for every citizen is an important commitment of the government.
He also said that emphasis is being placed on human resource development, universal healthcare, family planning and empowerment of women and youth to transform the country's demographic advantage into a force for long-term development. Through these initiatives, the government is working with the goal of building an inclusive, self-reliant and prosperous Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said that the future of Bangladesh depends on a generation that is educated, skilled, healthy, humane, technology-friendly and creative. For the development of the youth, it is necessary to create an environment where they can get good education, create job opportunities and build a safe and dignified life.
Stating that the youth are the biggest strength of the country in information technology and knowledge-based economy, she said that by acquiring up-to-date training and skills, the youth of the country will be able to play an important role in the national and international labor market. At the same time, their innovative thinking will further accelerate the country's economy and development.
According to the Prime Minister, if economic security, social stability and improved health system are ensured, the youth will be able to plan for the future with more confidence. They will also be able to play a conscious and responsible role in important decisions in life, including forming a family.
Noting that there is no alternative to a healthy population to build a developed nation, she said the government is working to ensure accessible, quality and accountable healthcare for all. Initiatives to strengthen family planning programs, increase technology-based healthcare and create skilled manpower are also ongoing.
The Prime Minister mentioned child marriage, early motherhood and malnutrition as major obstacles to the development of the young generation. She said these problems do not only harm a family; they also impact education, women's empowerment, maternal and child health, human resource development and the country's productivity.
To address these challenges, she said the government is implementing integrated programs to prevent child marriage, provide quality healthcare to adolescents, improve nutrition and expand life skills-based education.
The Prime Minister said that if every youth gets equal opportunities to grow up healthy, educated, skilled and confident, they will be the main force in building a developed Bangladesh of the future.
The Prime Minister called on the government, families, society and relevant institutions to work together to realize the potential of the youth in the spirit of World Population Day. At the same time, she wished success to all the programs organized to mark the day.
