Artists' Association election begins in FDC, 573 voters

The Bangladesh Film Artists' Association's 2026-2028 term election has begun. Voting began at 9 am on Friday at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation-BFDC premises. Voting will continue until 6 pm. However, a one-hour break has been kept for prayers in the afternoon.
A total of 573 voters will exercise their voting rights in this election. The new leadership of the Artists' Association will be elected for the next two years by the verdict of the voters. A festive atmosphere has been created in the FDC area since the morning with the presence of candidates, voters and supporters.
Two full panels are contesting for various posts including president and general secretary in the election. An independent candidate has also participated in the election. The Election Commission has informed that all necessary preparations have been made to conclude the voting peacefully.
Actor and fight director Arman is contesting for the post of president in one panel. Rumana Islam Mukti has been nominated for the post of general secretary in the same panel. In this panel, Nutan and Elias Kobra are contesting for the posts of Vice President, Rina Khan for the posts of Deputy General Secretary, Chunnu for the posts of Organizing Secretary, MA Parvez Chowdhury Abir for the posts of International Affairs Secretary, Russell Mia for the posts of Office and Publicity Secretary, Maruf Aqib for the posts of Culture and Sports Secretary and Kamal for the posts of Treasurer.
In the other panel, Shiba Sanu is contesting for the posts of President and Joy Chowdhury for the posts of General Secretary. The candidates for Vice President of this panel are Rozina and DA Tayeb. Subrata is contesting for the posts of Deputy General Secretary, Soni Rahman for the posts of Organizing Secretary, Polly for the posts of International Affairs Secretary, Jackie Alamgir for the posts of Office and Publicity Secretary, Mosafkul Jamil Kakon for the posts of Culture and Sports Secretary and Jadu Azad for the posts of Treasurer.
In addition, Yusuf Khan is contesting as an independent candidate for the posts of Culture and Sports Secretary. A total of 27 candidates, including two panels and independents, are contesting against the posts of 11 members of the Executive Council.
Kamal Md. Kibria Lipu is serving as the Chief Election Commissioner in this election. The counting of votes is scheduled to begin at night after the voting. If everything goes well, the results of the new committee can be announced by Friday.
In the last term, Misha Sawdagar was the president and Monowar Hossain Dipjol was the general secretary. However, they are not participating in the election this time. As a result, there is a possibility of a new face leading the Shilpi Samity this time.
