Mourners gather at funerals of defense personnel killed in Lebanon

Thousands of mourners have gathered at funerals for Hezbollah fighters, security personnel and rescue workers killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

The funerals, held in southern Lebanon and the capital Beirut in late April, were attended by scores of people. They carried coffins of the dead and protested against the Israeli attacks.

Mourners held pictures and flags of the dead at the funerals. In many places, the atmosphere was heavy with the cries of relatives.

The dead included Hezbollah fighters, Lebanese security personnel, civilians and rescue workers.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called the attacks on rescue workers a “clear war crime”.

Despite efforts to reach a ceasefire, the situation is becoming more fragile with new attacks and casualties, sources said.
